The prelude to Saturday’s festival begins Friday June 18 at 1:00pm, with Salatul Jumu’ah (the Muslim congregational prayer service) at the noteworthy Independence National Historical Park, located at 5th and Market Streets. Independence National Historical Park is America’s most historic square mile with more than 20 landmarks open to the public. It is the Home of the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall which houses the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and the National Constitution Center. In Addition, in the very near future, the President’s House will commemorate the lives of nine enslaved Africans who lived and worked in the nation’s first White House.

The Pennsylvania chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-PA) today thanked the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for its “prompt and appropriate action” in offering an apology to a Muslim driver in that state who was initially refused the right to take her driver’s license photograph wearing a religious head scarf, or hijab.

2000 Muslims Expected to Participate in Analysis of the Islamic Experience in America from Malcolm X to the Present
Philadelphia, PA- Amin Nathari, noted author, lecturer, activist and Imam has been preparing for February 2010 for at least 5 years. “I knew that this moment in time would come, God willing, and have reflected on what the agenda and condition would be of Muslims living in 21st century America. I have written about it, I have lectured and given commentary on the subject, but I knew I wanted and there exists a need for, a broader dialog on these issues,” says Nathari, who is also National Representative of the Islam in America Movement (IAM). “The symposium is the opportunity to forge this discussion, which is imperative to Islamic experience in America.”
